Background:

In 1937, a patent was issued to Buckminster Fuller, assignor to The Dymaxion Corporation, for his design of the Dymaxion Motor Vehicle. Designed as a concept car, the Dymaxion had a fuel efficiency of 30 miles per US gallon (7.8 L/100 km), which was unheard of at the time. The Dymaxion could transport eleven passengers at speeds of up to 120 miles per hour (193 km/h).
