Brief Summary
Nanjing
University of TCM and Shanghai University of TCM are well-known for their
advantages in higher education of TCM and compilation of TCM textbooks. The
compilation of A Newly Compiled Practical English-Chinese Library of TCM has
absorbed the rich experience accumulated by Nanjing University of TCM in
training international students of TCM. Compared with the previous library, the
Newly Compiled Library has made great improvements in many aspects, fully
demonstrating the academic system of TCM. The whole series of books has
systematically introduced the basic theory and therapeutic methods based on
syndrome differentiation, expounding traditional Chinese pharmacy and
prescriptions; explaining 236 herbs, 152 prescriptions and 100 commonly-sued
patent drugs; elucidating 264 methods for differentiating syndromes and
treating commonly-encountered and frequently-encountered diseases in internal
medicine, surgery, gynecology, pediatrics, traumatology and orthopedics,
ophthalmology and otorhinolaryngology; introducing the basic methods and theory
of acupuncture and moxibustion, massage, life cultivation and rehabilitation,
including 70 kinds of diseases suitable for acupuncture and moxibustion, 38
kinds of diseases for massage, examples of life cultivation and over 20 kinds
of commonly encountered diseases treated by rehabilitation therapies in TCM.
The books are neatly illustrated. There are 296 line graphs and 30 colored
pictures in the Library with necessary indexes, making it more comprehensive,
accurate and systematic in disseminating TCM in the countries and regions where
English is the official language.
The book
consists of two parts, general introduction and discussion of specific
diseases. Of the three chapters in the first part, chapter one briefly expounds
various physiological and pathological relations between the eyes and viscera.
The second chapter contains the ophthalmologic diagnostic methods and common
syndrome differentiating methods in ophthalmology, including the
differentiation of external and internal oculopathy, of nebula and of common
symptoms and signs. Ocular internal and external therapies and common oral
drugs are discussed in the third chapter. The second part of the book is
grouped into five chapters to introduce the diagnoses and treatments of 23
kinds of common ocular diseases that occur in the eyelid, canthi, bulbar
conjunctiva, cornea and pupil. The discussion of each disease is precise and
appropriate in TCM, and the treating methods introduced are dependable and
practical.
