Presenting a RARE MOVIE MOLD/LEAD FORM. The proper name is an "Ad Mat" or more specifically “WOOD AD MAT" Many from my collection including this one have "Wood Ad Mat stamped on the back. THIS IS FROM THE 1951 FILM "ACROSS THE WIDE MISSOURI" STARRING CLARK GABLE!

Wide Web!! This is one of the rarest pieces of Movie Memorabilia you will ever find!

THIS ADMAT IS IN MINT UNUSED CONDITION!!!

Some of my customers include Museums located throughout the
U.S.A. they have purchased similar Ad Mat molds to exhibit. This is an
ORIGINAL CASTING MOLD FOR THE 1951 FILM "ACROSS THE WIDE MISSOURI" The  mold reads: "CLARK GABLE EMBRACES MARIA ELENA MARQUES, IN THIS SCENE FROM MGM'S "ACROSS THE WIDE MISSOURI"....IN COLOR BY TECHNICOLOR."

This mold measures aprox. 4 1/2" X 3 1/2".
It is in MINT UNUSED CONDITION! These molds are great conversation
piece and they are RARE as the dickens! This would look outstanding
framed in a shadowbox type frame. Again these are composed of a Wood Fiber....Please don't expect something made out of metal!

In the 1830's beaver trapper Flint Mitchell (Clark Gable) and other white men hunt and trap in the then unnamed territories of Montana and Idaho. Flint marries a Blackfoot woman as a way to gain entrance into her people's rich lands, but finds she means more to him than a ticket to good beaver habitat.

These "WOOD AD MATS" are really Molds/Lead Forms that were
intended to have molten lead poured into to them create castings, and
then discarded. This was the way that Newspaper ads, press book Ad Mats
and various publications were produced up until the mid 1960's. Most
newspapers were done via letterpress printing and utilized what is
called hot type. The lead was melted and then used to type out words
and imprint pictures. Pictures were usually in the form of one of these
molds, which is composed of a wood fiber material specially, designed
to accept the molten lead. Once cooled the casting was secured in the
desired position in the letterpress, inked and paper placed on top of
the lead casting. The press was then brought down under pressure and
'whala' a spiffy movie ad for a film coming to a theater near you!
Electronic typesetting made this process obsolete over 40 years ago!
Today's computers and technology make this process extremely efficient.
