THANK YOU FOR LOOKING, GOOD LUCK IF YOU ARE JUST VISITING MY ITEMS. GOOD FORTUNE TO YOU IN ALL OF YOUR ENDEAVORS, SINCERELY, BILLYG NOTE ON GRADING A TRUE STORY: A couple years back at the long beach coin auction a lady passed a coin around to 5 professional coin graders ( these good folks grade coins day in and day out all day long). To make a long story short, she received 4 different grades on the same coin, only 2 of these professionals agreed on the same grade. I HAVE BEEN COLLECTING SINCE 1958 AND BY NO MEANS DO I CLAIM OR THINK I AM A EXPERT ON GRADING I have a good Idea what the grade is but YOU decide I give the best picture I can and info at the end of description for you to decide the state of the coin, THIS IS MY OPINION AND MY OPINION ONLY AND DO NOT GUARANTEE WHAT PCGS, NGC, ECT WILL GRADE THEM AT, HOW CAN ONE WHEN THEY CANT GET IT RIGHT THEMSELVES? REMEMBER! ALWAYS BUY THE COIN “NOT THE SLAB” August 17, 2004 (Pittsburgh, PA) – The Professional Numismatists Guild (PNG) and the Industry Council For Tangible Assets (ICTA) have jointly released results of their second dealer’s survey of rare coin authentication and grading services. Survey respondents were asked for their professional opinions to evaluate eight grading services based on 12 different weighted criteria, such as grading and authentication accuracy. Each category was ranked by the respondents on a ten-point scale ranging from the lowest, Unacceptable, to the highest, Outstanding. The final tally lists NO GRADING service as “Outstanding." Numismatic Guaranty Corporation of America (NGC) of Sarasota, Florida and Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) of Newport Beach, California were rated, "Superior." ANACS of Englewood, Co. and Independent Coin Grading Company (ICG) of Englewood, Colorado were ranked "Average." ALL 4 ARE ACCEPTED BY EBAY AS APPROVED GRADING SERVICES. PERSONALLY I HAVE NOT SEEN MUCH DIFFERENCE IN THEIR ACCURACY. MORE ON Grading PLEASE READ: Even though I have been collecting coins since 1958. Like I said earlier, I am not a expert on grading nor do I believe the experts are experts. Some examples, Coins right out of the original roll sent in to be graded come back as cleaned, worn, etc. Coins sent to one grading company come back not graded that company says they are worn, cleaned, rim damage, etc. the same coin sent to another grading company and it comes back MS63. Coins once graded MS63 cut out of the plastic sent back to same company for re-grading coin comes back AU58 or not graded at all. The grading service says coin has been cleaned, filed rim, etc. Bottom line, send a coin in at your own risk. If one is looking for a sure thing on an MS65, 66 or 67 its best just to go out and buy a “certified” MS65 ,66 or 67 chances are even if its an uncertified MS65 it wont be graded as one. But who really knows. Your eye gives the best info on coins. If you are happy with it that is all that matters.
