Vintage 13” Celluloid & Boxwood Scale Ruler

Advertising for the Culberg Asbestos & Cork Company

Make it yours!...This ruler does not have a makers mark but advertising for the Culberg Asbestos & Cork Co., and... Culberg Felt Insulations and Asbestos Contractors and Distributors, as well as Culberg Asbestos of Ohio, Inc. A very unusual and Rare find. The ruler is not dated, but was likely handed out during the Asbestos Era to jobbers or those in the associated fields.

The numbers and lines on the ruler are printed on the celluloid in black. The center section is made of boxwood. I am uncertain of the intended purpose of this type of ruler, but drafting, architectural, construction or surveying seams appropriate.

The ruler is in good condition with a few small nicks, a few scratches, a single tiny burn, general wear and mild soiling. The celluloid strip is a bit loose on one end as pictured in image 6, but should be an un-noticeable, easy fix. It is 100% legible.

An odd find for those interested in the subject matter. Rarely found 13” Advertising Architect’s Scale Ruler made of Celluloid and boxwood...clearly advertising for a known Asbestos source.
