Navy cruisers and destroyers intercepted and inspected several Russian ships enroute to Cuba but no missiles were found. On October 25, U.S. Army Nike-Hercules anti-aircraft missiles were placed on 15-minute alert. Finally, Soviet premier Kruschev agreed to remove the missiles from Cuba. These actions were confirmed by U.S. aircraft as the missile sites were dismantled and the missiles left Cuba in Soviet ships.
