Nat King Cole begann seine Karriere in den dreißiger Jahren als Swing- und Jazz Pianist. Er gründete das Nat Cole Trio mit ihm am Klavier, dem Bassisten Wesley Prince und dem Gitarristen Oscar Moore. Sie konzentrierten sich auf den populären Swing Sound dieser Jahre und feierten erste Erfolge mit Instrumentalinterpretationen. Der Erfolg von Cole´s Piano/Gitarre/Bass Kombo inspirierte in folgenden Jahren Jazzkünstler wie Oscar Peterson und Ahmad Jamal, es ihm nachzutun. Der Erfolg den Cole mit seiner Stimme haben sollte, zeichnete sich erst Anfang der 50er Jahre ab. Viele seiner Fans sollten nie erfahren was für ein exzellenter Pianospieler er gewesen ist, da er sich in den folgenden Jahren auf seine Gesangskarriere konzentrierte und das Piano vernachlässigte. Innerhalb weniger Jahre sang er sich in die Herzen von Millionen Fans und bescherte der jungen Plattenfirma Capitol Records immense Umsätze. Er war der erste Schwarze im amerikanischen Fernsehen und Radio, der seine eigene Show bekam. Doch auch er war gegen den Rassismus dieser Zeit nicht immun und musste mit Schwierigkeiten kämpfen. Nichtsdestotrotz sind seine Lieder Mona Lisa, Unforgettable, When I Fall In Love u.v.m zu unsterblichen Evergreens geworden. Hier eine Sammlung seiner Hits, die er außerdem wahnsinnig erfolgreich einspielte!
