Wisconsin's the Bodeans churned out a bevy of records in the late '80s and early '90s to frustrating ends, finding critical acclaim while success continually eluded them. It was not until, of all things, Fox's teen drama PARTY OF FIVE used the leadoff track from 1993's GO SLOW DOWN as its theme song that the band finally found radio play. The track, "Closer to Free," remains an untouchably sublime slab of jangly, pop-ulist perfection, while the rest of the album follows suit in its rich instrumentation (chiming acoustic guitars, accordion) and infectious melodies.
