This pulp book probably had a paper cover but that is missing along with title and contents pages. The book is 6x7.75" and gathered together models and tool use originally published in a great magazine for children JUNIOR HOME that died about 1932. (But it did give birth to CHILDREN'S ACTIVITIES in 1935.) The pulp pages show some wear and a few have tips chipped, one has a tear, but these are wonderful diagrams and instructions for boys ages about 9-14 for making models, toys plus a chapter "Tools and How To Use Them." The work is by Frank J. Solar and U. S. Huggins and evidently appeared as projects in JUNIOR HOME first. It starts with a sled using old barrel staves, then: kites, gliders and parachutes; boats, pantograph, boomeranger, window air screen, then the models: sea sled, midget plane, doll furniture, bird houses, windmill. The planes and boats patterns are: glider, rubber band boat, sail boat, racer, sea sled, plane midget or giant, airplane weather vane, merry-go-round sea-plane set up, patterns for cardboard 3-D plane like flew in France; wood car and trailer (has tear), skate sail, toys including special 4th of July, clown pantin, sky skimmer, paper birds to fly; Simple Model Airplanes 15 pages of patterns and instructions, lots more; page 204 ends mid-sentence so more pages are missing at the end but what a GREAT bunch of patterns. |
