1930 "Famous Pictures," by Charles L. Barstow. "Noted paintings described with anecdotes of the painters." This was part of the "fine art series for young readers," by the Century Publishing Company. 82 black-and-white illustrations of the 'famous pictures,' 252 pages. Was originally published in 1911--this later edition has a chapter on "modern art" added, which includes mentions of Van Gogh, Gaugin, and Cezanne. Red cloth binding. This edition belonged to the New York Public Library (I swear, I bought it at a tag sale), and has usual 1930ish library markings. Cover has overall soiling and bumped corners. Endpapers have some discoloration, and there are a few stray small stains and marks but nothing major. Binding is tight. No tears. |
