NORMAN ROCKWELL'S TRIBUTE TO

ROBERT FROST

IN

THE FRANKLIN MINT ALMANAC, SEPTEMBER 1974

Franklin Center, Pennsylvania: The Franklin Mint, 1974.  First Edition.  Glossy printed paper wrappers with a color photograph of Robert Frost on the front cover.  8 1/2" by 11".  31 glossy pages.  Profusely illustrated with numerous color and black & white photographs, drawings, and other illustrations.

This Special Robert Frost Issue of The Franklin Mint Almanac Magazine celebrates the Centennial or Anniversary of the 100th Birthday of the American Poet Robert Frost in 1974 with the announcement of the creation of 12 new works of art by America's most beloved artist, Norman Rockwell, for a series of sterling silver medals honoring Robert Frost.

There is a 5-page article about Robert Frost entitled "Norman Rockwell Pays Tribute to Robert Frost" by Bernard Abrams which quotes from Frost's poems, and is complemented with eight (8) photographs of Robert Frost including one of Frost walking in the snow at his Vermont farm with his dog Gillie;  another picture of Robert Frost walking in a field during his trip to England in 1957;  and a photograph of Robert Frost reciting his poem, "The Gift Outright," at the Inauguration of President John F. Kennedy in 1961.

Other articles in this issue include "Sustaining Artistry" about the catalytic forces promoting creativity in The Franklin Mint sculptors' studio;  "Belize" about that Central American nation appointing The Franklin Mint to strike its new national coinage;  a Zodiac/Roberts Gift Catalog insert advertising Zodiac jewelry and collector sets;  "Collectors Society Newsletter" which is a monthly report to Franklin Mint Collectors Society Members;  "The Art of Minting" about how proof-quality coining is accomplished in a sealed-off "clean room";  and "Clifford Schule: A fascination with faces" about the Franklin Mint sculptor and his lifelong need to draw faces, with examples of some of the faces (e.g., Harry Truman, Louis Pasteur, Casals) on medallic art coins which show Schule's remarkable talents as a portraitist.  There are also five illustrated pages of Recent Issues of The Franklin Mint.

Some small red-brown stains or spots in the margins of pages 4 & 5 of the Frost article, else a Near Fine Copy in beautifully printed and colorfully illustrated wraps of a Rare Robert Frost Collector's Item.  Buyer pays $4.00 Media Mail in the U.S.  Insurance optional but highly recommended.
