In the year 1897, a little 8-year old girl named Virginia O’Hanlon wrote a letter to the editor of the New York Sun, asking if there was a Santa.  The reply is one of the great pieces of American writing.  It reads, in part:  “Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus! He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that the abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy.  Alas!  How dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus…no childlike faith, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence…” 

The ornament has decorations on the back as well as the front and can be displayed standing on a hearth or table as well as on a tree.

BOX CONDITION:  The box shows a little wear and some paint scuffs but is in good condition without creases or crushes.
