Golden was a well selling popular historian who had two sucessful biographies before this. Most critics feel this is his best brininging out Sandburg's proletariat roots, his exposures to the social upheavels of the times and how this manifested itself in poetry for the working man.

287 pp quarter bound in tan and light blue cloth  with gilt lettering and design, deckled fore edge and  a maroon publisher top edge stain. Solid, tight  & square bind. Clean, unmarked pages with faint fep tanning. Solid, crisp boards. DJ complete and solid with light edge and corner wear.
