Culture Club spearheaded the British pop movement of the early '80s with their smooth-but-bubbly amalgam of soul, pop and reggae. The androgynous Boy George's silky smooth, Smokey Robinson-influenced vocal style and intelligent, emotional songs were the keys to the band's worldwide success. The band's infectious pop hits from their salad days are presented on the second disc of this collection (GREATEST MOMENTS).
The first disc, capturing the band live in the VH1 studio documents their phoenix-like re-emergence after personal conflicts and George's substance abuse brought about a temporary halt to their pop reign. The live disc finds Culture Club tackling both old and new material in their inimitable fashion. The old hits are given a new sheen, and the newer material has some of the same sparkle that made the band a success in the first place.
