A Distinguished Woman
Vintage photo from the William Notman photo Studio of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The subject is Mrs. A. J. Ramsay and was taken in 1867.Green Notman imprint in back. Handwritten: CONDITION SIZE: Carte de visites or CDVs are a card mounted photograph patented in 1854. CDVs were tremendously popular during the 1860s. CDVs of Royalty and other public figures were highly collectable. The Carte de visite is easily distinguished from other card mounted photos by its size, typically 2-1/2" x 4-1/4". Like the Cabinet Photo, the vast majority are portraits, and most of them are not identified with the subjects name. Many have a photographer's imprint.
