This ia a very pretty, vintage, reverse carved and reverse painted intaglio cabachon pendant featuring a beautiful soft baby blue butterfly. This piece was hand done in West Germany during either the 1940's or 1950's and it is a great old piece and in terrific condition. The butterfly is very delicate and feminine and makes a beautiful pendant. The piece appears to be almost "frosted", and the butterfly has a soft creamy white background which really sets this piece off nicely. This is the prettiest and most feminine old glass cabachon pendant! The color combinations are really lovely and very soft. The butterflies appear to be floating. The pendant is an 18mm piece and is mounted in a newer gold colored mounting complete with a hanging hook, ready to put on your favorite chain and wear. This cabachon is over 50 years old. It is a reverse carved and painted intaglio and is a glass cabachon. It is in mint condition, very clear paint and the covering glass is pristine. There are no scratches, breaks, discolorations or damage of any kind. The charm displays excellent workmanship, the kind not seen anymore. Each one has been individually and tediously hand carved and hand painted. This is a truly beautiful piece and is quite a conversation piece when worn. It is something vintage and unusual, and something you don't see much of anymore. It's a light and airy piece, perfect for wearing in the summertime, or anytime! These cabachons were sometimes called intaglios, rosettes, reverse crystals or "Cabs". Thy date back to the 1940's and 1950's and are considered to be extremely rare and highly collectible. These "cabs" or cabachons contain intaglio images or scenes. Each piece was hand painted into a reverse carved image. These amazing pieces of art were first manufactured during the Victorian era. Because they are so tiny and intricate it is difficult to manufacture them today. Current high manufacturing costs make producing these crystals cost prohibitive. As a result, these crystals have become sought after rarities and collectors items. Anything available now has survived over the years and is not a new item. This particular larger size glass piece is very unusual in this oval shape and is a wonderful old pin. These are real collectors items...don't it get away. It truly is amazing, and all hand done.
