Finished (76 x 104) quilt, blue, dark golden yellow and black used for borders and stripping.
You are bidding on the tinted A Country Girl quilt block or pillow square featured in my Vintage Women book/cd. The kit will make 1 (ONE) of the 18-inch squares, which can be used in a quilt or to make a pillow cover. The face has been hand traced on Egyptian Cotton using a Pigma Micron Pen and hand tinted using Tsukineko All Purpose Inks; she is ready for you to apply the applique pieces and complete the embroidery. The kit includes the silk fabrics for the hat and bow, silk ribbon for the roses, and the cotton fabric for the flowers and leaves. Includes floss to use if you wish: 2 pink, 2 yellow, 1 green, 1 blue.
The kit includes the face tinted on an 18 x 18 inch square of Egyptian cotton, the backing cotton (Osnaburg) and the fabrics needed to complete the design. In most cases you will receive the same fabrics as used in my original designs; when I run out I will substitute another color matching as near as possible to the ones I used. You may request different fabric colors and I will try to accommodate you! You will need to provide the embroidery threads needed to do the embroidery. In most cases I can substitute wool for the silk or cotton. The felted wool is the easiest to work with for those new to appliqué because the pieces can be stitched using a buttonhole or a running stitch and there is no turning under of the fabric edge. The kit includes the paper pattern for the design in 2 sizes.
The complete series is made up of 12 patterns. Please see the picture of my finished quilt.
These quilt squares/pillow tops were reproduced from my collection of vintage pillow tops, from patterns sent by friends, and from vintage catalogs or magazines. In most cases we made changes to the originals. Many of the originals were sold as tinted pillow tops or in kit form.
While working the designs I kept notes. My instructions for each individual pattern were made from these notes. Each pattern comes in 2 sizes including the design and a separate sheet of the appliqué pattern pieces.
For my quilt I tinted the designs on Egyptian cotton using Tsukineko Inks. The finished size for each square is 18 x 18. These patterns can be used for simple embroidery, crayon or ink tinting or appliquéd using purchased felted wool. They can be appliquéd by hand, as I did, or by machine. You could do them all with red hats and have a super Red Hat Society quilt. They can be done separately and used to make a pillow cover or be framed. The possibilities are endless----you are only limited by your imagination!!
The caption under each individual pattern picture notes the fabrics I used to complete my squares.
These kits are also available as individual patterns (full size pattern and an 8.5 x 11) and complete instructions for the individual pattern and in a book titled VINTAGE WOMEN. The book has the patterns and appliqué pieces printed on an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper. You can use as is or enlarge to the size you need.
