Vintage Work Basket DOW Hand Embroidery Transfers 984
Vintage Aunt Martha's, Work Basket, Volume 6, C93, No. 3. The inside of the leaflet states----Next month's transfer brings the tea towel motifs shown on the cover, and a group of new designs for the bathroom. So, the cut red line transfer sheet that was found with No. 3 would have been in No. 4. Any hoo--the 964 transfer sheet was found with the this Work Basket leaflet. It has pieces missing, but not the DOW transfers. As far as I can tell the missing designs are for the bathroom---and include the cattails design, 3 little swimming fish, and a snail. The embroidery transfer sheet has color instructions for the tea towel DOW designs.
Designs: Pierre's Day-- Chef, Suzette's Day--Maid, Matt's Day--Gardner, Charlie's Day--Ironing clothes, Hanna's day--Laundress, Brook's Day--Butler and Sunday they all stand in front of a church! Potholder design included.
One page of Christmas card designs---could be embroidered! Instructions making a dusting mitt and crochet directions for hot dish mats.

Some fun information about tinted embroidered linens and pillows:
Tinted and/or embroidered pillows, crib covers and other linens were very popular during the 1900's-1950's. The items were purchased as stamped/tinted pieces or in kits with floss and instructions and were then embroidered by the purchaser.
Vogue Needlework, selling Vogue Art Needlecrafts can be dated to around 1930. B. Kugel Company acquired Vogue Needlework in the 40's and items were sold under both Vogart and Vogue Needlecraft. Vogart/Vogue Needlecraft designed for S. S. Kresge's, Five and Dime Stores changed name to KMart in 1977( older catalogs show pillows sold with JBK marking). JBK copyrights can be found on 1920's linens; Woolworth's (Jerglo); S. H. Kress & Co., Montgomery Ward's, and G.C. Murphy Co. There were companies designing/selling Art Needlework before Vogart: Royal Society (H. E. Verran Co.-- 1912-1930), Pacific, Bucilla (Benhard Ulman Co.), Brainerd Silk, Richardson's Silk, T.B.C (T. Buettner & Co.Wholesale Linens and Art needlework, 1920's), Frederick Herrschner Co. (This company was established in 1899 and is still in business today), Art Novelties by Gomory Inc. (New York 1930's; logo features a G inside a diamond shape), Artamo, Woman's World, and Le Merite (The American Import Co. of San Francisco).
Other companies you may see associated with tinted art needlework items are: KBC, Wonder Art (carried by Newberry's, Kresge's and Fixler Bros.), The American Thread Co. (ATCO), Virginia Snow Studio, Harriet Harper Studio, Grandmother's Art Needlework (W. L. M.
