SCRAPBOOK HOLLYWOOD MOVIE STUNTMAN MEMORABILIA FAIR CAR
Personal scrapbook and memorabilia collection of "Capt. Bob Ward", Demon Driver in the Circus of Death and all-around Hollywood Movie Stuntman in the 1930s and 1940s.
Capt. Bob Ward and his Hollywood Daredevil Aces traveled all over the US and Canada including MI, KS, MN, CA, IL, MS, FL, WA, MO, OR.
Capt. Bob and his movie stuntmen team performed such death-defying feats as fire walls with cars (usually Chevrolet), motorcycles, human battering ram, tunnels of fire with motorcycles and open cockpit cars, brick wall crashes, flying airplanes through barns (and not through the openings - right through the sides), jumping over sedans, parachuting, airplane acrobatics, airplane crashing into a brick wall, head on air collision, airplane vs. tree and more. Capt. Bob even offered a $5000 reward to anyone who could provide proof of a more exciting show!
Papers said that "Death takes a vacation when Bob Ward comes to town".
From what we could gather from the news clippings, Capt Bob and his crew were involved in the following movies: Sea Hawk, Night Flight, Hell's Angels, Wings, Dawn Patrol, Ceiling Zero, The Hero, Liquid Assets, Steeplechase, Fire and Water. Several photographs depicting stunt scenes are in the scrapbook.
Included in this collection are:
1 Portrait painting by R. Harris (the helmet in the painting is one in this collection)
2 Crash Helmets (one is size 7 3/8, one is marked "The Cromwell Protector Helmet", "Clymer Motors".
Two scrapbooks, once belonging to Capt Bob Ward. The pages are brittle, the items pasted in - the paste is failing now. Unfortunately, this was not cared for gently, and the edges of the scrapbook pages are damaged and many are detatched from the book. This is the condition we acquired it in.
9 Fair and Event Posters (silk-screened on paper, most are folded. Many are torn, foxing, bent) Includes Centralia Borst Park, OK State Fair, more.
100+ Advertisements and Flyers for events
270+ Newspaper clippings chronicling events, feats, stuntmen, movies
310+ Photographs of Capt Bob, stunts, wrecked cars, planes, motorcycles going through tunnels of fire, sequential photos of a sedan rolling over 7 times at the MN State Fair in front of 83k people, scenes from movies showing stunts. Most are 8x10, some are snapshots and personal photos. Includes a photo with auto sport pioneer Barney Oldfield.
