LA COSA NOSTRA
New Orleans saw the first influence of La Cosa Nostra within the United States. While investigating the murder of an Italian immigrant in the 1880's, Police Chief David Hennessey discovered the existence of this secret society but was assassinated before he could gather enough evidence to bring anyone to trial.
Don - Vito Cascio Ferro, was the first Sicilian Capo de Tutti Capi to set foot on American soil. He, and other members of "The Black Hand", fled to the United States in 1901 to escape persecution at the hands of the Italian government. Don Vito built an empire in New York City with primary control over all major underworld activities including prostitution, extortion, racketeering, gambling and usury (loan-sharking). Don Vito is considered to be the Father of the American Mafia.

You'll notice that we do not implicate anyone as being an "Active" Boss within the Mafia families. In fact, anyone allegedly involved in current criminal activity is not mentioned in this compilation.
OVER 1,500 WIRE PHOTOS!
We've also included a large collection of vintage news wire photos that focus primarily on crime scenes, victims, criminals, cops and the legal system. An interesting visual account of violent crimes committed in the Chicagoland area between 1901 and 1933.

And our photographs have descriptions and summaries so you know the year and circumstances related to the events portrayed in each photograph...
