After 11 years fronting Van Halen, Sammy Hagar slipped easily back into the solo mode he'd pursued prior to joining the hard rock behemoth, and 2006's LIVIN' IT UP, recorded with his band the Waboritas, proves Hagar is plenty comfortable on his own turf. The album sports the hard-partying, hard-rocking vibe Hagar is known for; positioning himself as pop metal's answer to Jimmy Buffet, the veteran rocker celebrates booze ("I Love This Bar"), the beach ("Livin' on a Coastline"), and activities that combine the two ("Sailin'). And he even throws in a couple stylistic curveballs, like the country-tinged tune "Halfway."
