These 4 hard cover books are from the Best Loved Classics Series. Only one has a date of publication: THE TREASURY OF POEMS was published in 1944; these are all from the same era, though (later editions of the series were published in other decades). Each one of these 4 books states that it was Printed or Manufactured in the United States, but only two name a publisher: SELECTED ESSAYS was published by Lexicon Publications in Chicago, and TREASURY OF POEMS was published by Book Production Industries, also in Chicago.
TREASURY OF POEMS BY BEST LOVED POETS has 399 pages. The cover is in very good condition minimal edgewear and also minimum cornerwear at the tips--as from shelving. The gilt lettering on the cover and spine is in very good condition with a bit of smudging over the "Best Loved Classics" at the top of the spine. The pages have aged but are intact without creases, stains, writing, or highlighting.
SELECTED ESSAYS has 305 pages. The cover is in very good condition with a little edgewear and a bit of scuffing near the top of the spine. There is some discoloration of the edges of the pages--lower 1/4 or so--could be watermark--these books survived Hurricane Ivan. The pages show normal aging otherwise and do not have any creases, writing, or highlighting.
No mildew is present.
THE HOUSE OF SEVEN GABLES by Nathaniel Hawthorne has 309 pages, including "ten original illustrations." The cover is in very good condition with some edgewear along the bottom and no apparent damage to the lettering on the front or the spine. The pages show aging and also a couple of dark areas on the edges--see SELECTED ESSAYS--but no creases, writing, or highlighting.
THE ARABIAN NIGHTS, TALES FROM THE THOUSAND AND ONE NIGHTS, has 297 pages. The cover is in very good condition with some edgewear at the bottom but with intact lettering on the front and the spine. The pages show aging but no stains, creases, writing, or highlighting.
These books are in a smoke-free home.
