Autographed 5x7" glossy photo - JOHN HOWARD. Undated - c 1940. Signed and inscribed on the photo in blue ink: "Sincerely, John Howard". Pressure marks and gradations of ink are clearly visible. The photo is credited to Garret(t?) in the lower right corner.

Howard (1913-1995 - born John R. Cox, Jr. in Cleveland OH) was a versatile film actor who got his first big break in Paramount's Lost Horizon playing against Ronald Coleman. He starred in several of the popular Bulldog Drummond films in the 1930's and opposite Katharine Hepburn in The Philadelphia Story (1940). He served heroically in WWI, earning the US Navy Cross and the French Croix de Guerre. After the War he played mostly supporting roles in films and also had success playing on Broadway and on television (he played Fred MacMurray's boss in the popular series My Three Sons). Late in life he left the acting profession and became a high school English teacher. He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

This photo is a nice closeup of Howard at the peak of his career. It is from a large collection of autographs, mostly dating from the late 1930's and 1940's.

CONDITION: Very Good Plus. Crease to bottom right corner in margin, slight wear and yellowing. The back is clean and white. Collectible condition.
