At over eight feet long, this mahogany dining table has plenty of table space! Also note the dark spot near the right, which is a repaired crack. Shown here is the central gateleg dining table with both leaves up. In this position, the gateleg table would be great against a wall.
In this position, the gateleg table would make a great hall table. The two table ends would make great side tables. Even the backs of these tables are finished!
Here you can see a fine assortment of the satinwood string and rosewood inlays that are set into the mahogany of the table. There are four brass fasteners that slip into notches on the table ends, thus securing them together. Note that the table legs have inlays on all sides.
This amazing antique mahogany dining table was hand-crafted during the reign of George III around 1780. Few genuine English antique furniture pieces survive from this period, and even fewer remain in such excellent condition as this table, so this is certainly a highly unique example of fine antique furniture. Moreover, the design of the table, which is really composes of three separate tables--two side tables and a central gateleg table--is not only very novel but is also quite versatile. For instance, when not in use as a full dining table, you can use the two ends as hall or side tables and do the same for the center or you can use the central table piece as a smaller gateleg dining table. This was a common design in the Georgian period, although it has now become entirely absent from contemporary English reproduction furniture.

Having been recently restored, the wood displays a deep, rich complexion and a subtle grain, both of which have grown more beautiful and distinct over the years with the development of a lovely patina. In addition to cathedral mahogany, this dining table also features extensive satinwood string and rosewood inlays. As was common with fine furniture of the Georgian period, this table is finished on all sides. This means, for instance, that satinwood inlays adorn all four sides of the square tapered legs. The brass fasteners have recently been fitted to the table, as the original hardware has been lost. There is also a repaired crack as well as a few chips and scratches that are shown in the pictures in this listing. Otherwise, both cosmetic and structural condition remain excellent, especially for an antique furniture piece of such great age. This incredible George III mahogany dining table will continue to last for generations to come and would make a fantastic addition to any home!
