Meiji Period Satsuma Covered Censer w/ Figural Legs!
This outstanding Japanese satsuma covered censer has a nice form with four figural characters as legs holding up the main body. It has a large figural foo dog on the cover with open handles on the sides. It is decorated with hand painted characters on either side of the body with a phoenix bird on either side of the cover. It has nice detail and the entire piece is highlighted with gold gilt. It dates from the Meiji Period and measures approximately 14 inches tall by 11 inches across the handles by 5 + ¾ inches wide across the body. It is in excellent condition with the exception that the tips of the foo dogs tail have been re-attached and a few of the high points of the fur has nips.
