![]() Marvel DVD Comic Book Collection SynopsisIncludes:X-Men: Obsession The title of this 3rd-season X-Men episode is "Obsession," but it could easily have been rechristened "Moby Dick in Outer Space." The "Ahab" of the proceedings is Archangel, who has embarked upon an obsessive mission to destroy the immortal mutant Apocalypse. Rogue joins Archangel in his quest, while the other X-Men pursue an alternate strategy with the same goal. Alas, Archangel's stubborn single-mindedness could end up destroying everyone, hero and villain alike. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide X-Men: Savage Land, Strange Heart, Part One In the first half of the two-part X-Men adventure "Savage Land, Strange Heart," we are introduced to the half-human, half-pterodactyl Sauron. Under the spell of high priestess Zaladane, Sauron kidnaps Storm and bundles her off to Savage Land. Without the other X-Men to control her, Storm prepares to unleash the full fury of her energy to prevent Zaladane from sapping her life forces. Meanwhile, Storm's colleagues have plenty of trouble on their own -- namely, a fearsome dinosaur-like creature called The Garokk. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide X-Men: Dark Phoenix "Dark Phoenix" was an appropriate title for the third chapter of X-Men's "Dark Phoenix" saga. The titular Phoenix has threatened to destroy the X-Men if they force him to give up possession of Jean Grey. He forces Jean to fly to the D'har Star System for the purpose of regenerating her strength. But the journey ends disastrously when an out-of-control Jean destroys the entire system. Reluctantly, the X-Men align themselves with Shi'ar empress Lilandre, who has declared that, in her present state, Jean must be liquidated for the good of the Universe. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide X-Men: Savage Land, Strange Heart, Part Two In the second half of the two-part X-Men adventure "Savage Land, Strange Heart," Storm has unleashed the full force of her inner powers -- and she truly enjoys the rush! But there are consequences to her euphoria: Her unbridled strength has revitalized the deadly "stone spirit" Garokk. Now he threatens to increase his power by fusing with the volcanic forces of Savage Island. The X-Men, assisted by the Fall People, must put an end to Garokk's reign of terror. But this means that they must also do battle against their former comrade Storm, thereby setting the stage for one of the series' customary Crises of Loyalty. "Savage Land, Strange Heart" was originally broadcast during X-Men's 1994-95 season. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide X-Men: Cold Comfort This episode marked the return of former X-Man Bobby Drake, a.k.a. the freeze-inducing Iceman (who'd previously popped up as a regular on another Marvel cartoon series, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends. The downside is that Iceman has apparently gone bad, breaking into a secret government installation and wreaking all sorts of havoc. Rescued from the authorities, he is brought to Professor X to explain himself -- but only the Beast, a.k.a. Dr. McCoy, knows the real motivation for his colleague's alleged crime. "Cold Comfort" was originally broadcast during X-Men's 1994-95 season. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide X-Men: Nightcrawler In Germany, X-Men Gambit, Rogue and Wolverine enjoy a well-deserved skiing vacation. That is, Gambit and Rogue have a good time; Wolverine can't stand the inactivity, so he jumps at the chance to track down a local rampaging "Demon." Trapping his quarry in a monastery, Wolverine discovers that the so-called "demon," named Nightcrawler, is a fellow mutant who is hated and feared only because of his hideous ugliness. "Nightcrawler" was originally broadcast during X-Men's 1994-95 season. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide X-Men: One Man's Worth, Part Two In the second half of "One Man's Worth", Bishop and Shard desperately attempt to correct the "alternate presence" in which Magneto rules over humankind. To do this, Bishop must convince Wolverine and Storm to rise up against Magneto. But the two former X-Men don't want to sacrifice the love they feel for each other in this alternative world. Things go from bad to worse when the time-travellers are unable to prevent the assassination of Xavier. It is now imperative that Wolverine accompany Bishop back to the 22nd century to alter the past with an experimental, unstable and possibly lethal computer -- but how when, technically, Bishop doesn't even exist in this topsy-turvy world? ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide X-Men: Courage The much-misunderstood, mixed-up Morph returns to the X-Men. Alas, the reunion is interrupted by a terrorist attack on a weapons depot. And there's worse to come: The Sentinels, robots created to wipe out all mutants, have likewise made a return appearance. Emotional over his past experiences with both the X-Men and the Sentinels, Morph must conquer his own inner demons before he can hope to rescue his friends. "Courage" originally aired as the 11th episode of X-Men's 1995-96 season. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide X-Men: One Man's Worth, Part One Suriving the megalomanic schemes of Apocalypse in the previous four-part saga "Beyond Good and Evil," 22nd century time traveller Bishop and his sister Shard arrive in the present. Their mission: To stave off an imminent alteration of the future, and to preserve the very existence of the X-Men. Alas, Bishop and Shard have landed in an alternative present, a "Bizarro" world in which Magneto rules the earth with the aid of such henchmen as former heroes Wolverine and Storm -- who are themselves now man and wife. The two-part "One Man's Worth" was originally broadcast during X-Men's 1995-96 season. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide X-Men: Orphan's End The X-Men face a new challenge in the form of vicious space pirate Corsair. The dilemma: Corsair may very well be Cyclops' long-long father. Escaping from the Shi'ar authorities, Corsair takes refuge in the X-Men's headquarters. Cyclops spends the bulk of the story torn between loyalty to a man who abandoned him a child and his sworn fidelity to Shi'ar ruler Lilandre. "Orphan's End" was originally telecast during X-Men's 1994-95 season. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide X-Men: Juggernaut Returns The seemingly invulnerable mutant Juggernaut makes his first appearance since X-Men's inaugural 1992-93 season. The Ruby of Cyttorak, which powers Juggernaut, has fallen into the wrong hands. Professor X must destroy the thief, not only to save the universe but also for hidden reasons of his own. But in so doing, he risks destroying Juggernaut -- his own half-brother. "Juggernaut Returns" first aired in the winter of 1994-95. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide X-Men: Weapon X, Lies and Videotape This final episode of X-Men's 1994-95 season begins as Wolverine is mysteriously unhinged by the information imparted in a postcard. Beast wants to know why his friend has gone off the deep end, so he takes Wolverine to the Weapon X lab where he was first transformed into a mutant. Also converging on the lab are Sabretooth, Maverick and Silver Fox, who likewise had been test subjects along with Wolverine -- and who are also inexplicably suffering profound mental anguish. The answer to the mystery is horrifying, and potentially fatal for all concerned. "Weapon X, Lies and Videotape" was originally broadcast in Fox's Sunday-evening Prime Time schedule on June 11, 1995, in tandem with the first-season finale of another Marvel cartoon show, Spider-Man: The Animated Series. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide DVD DETAILS: Unless otherwise indicated, all DVDs are brand new and factory sealed.
