Contains Ron's Obituary - Also Space Shuttle EXPLODES
The New York Times Wednesday, January 29, 1986 Main Section A (24 pages) Headlines: THE SHUTTLE EXPLODES Contains the obituary of L. Ron Hubbard who passed on January 24th, 1986. Hubbard's last days were spent on 80 acres about 200 miles north of LA in San Luis Obispo County in a city called Creston. L. Ron Hubbard hadn't been seen in public for the last 6 years of his life, so there have been many rumors and fancified stories as a result. Here is the straight dope. It's not as exciting as the psych drug stories. Here is what the leading Newspaper of the day had to report: "According to his death certificate, which was signed by Dr. Eugene Denk, a Scientologist who had been Mr. Hubbard's personal physician for many years, he died there Friday of a stroke... George S. Whiting, the county coroner, said in an interview... he was forbidden from ordering an autopsy by a certificate of religious preference... investigation of the death was limited to looking at Mr. Hubbard's body, photographing it and taking fingerprints."
