Antique Punjab Large Wood Dowry Box

Nice laquer decorated  antique dowry box used by Punjab people of Pakistan, Iran.

Most items for sale come from around the region of the valley of Swat also known as the Switzerland of the East; it sits on the borders of Pakistan, Afghanistan, China.

A stop on the famous "Silk Road" trade route, the people of the region have, for 2000 years, been well known for their amazing woodcarving, Ghandaran sculptures, textiles and tribal jewelry. Buddhist, Hindu, Islamic and Pagan cultures are all part of this ancient place in The Hindu Kush Mountains where well known conquerors such as Alexander the Great and Genghis Khan have ruled.

Some items are new "handicrafts" produced by the local population and some are genuine antiques used by the locals for hundreds of years. I don’t have exact dates for the antiques but most are between 40 and 100 years old. There are laws in most countries that prevent the export of items over 100 years old and we adhere to such laws.
