THE ETUDE MUSIC MAGAZINE described itself as "A monthly journal for the musician, the music student, and all music lovers." It was about music, musical performance, and the singers, players, and musicians who fill our lives with joy, sorrow, and entertainment. It was heavily oriented toward classical music and its study plus instruction in its performance and technique.
The magazines are very collectible. Some collect them for the cover art.
The magazine was published as THE ETUDE AND MUSICAL WORLD from 1896-1897, as THE ETUDE from 1897 to 1922, as THE ETUDE MUSIC MAGAZINE from 1922 to 1948, and as simply ETUDE from 1948 to 1957.
This April, 1939, issue has articles of interest on topics such as recent record releases and what bands mean to America and also instructional topics such as correct breathing for singers and how to understand the pipe organ.
There are also musical pieces in the magazine:
Fascinating Pieces for the Musical Home, including "Deep River"
Master Works by Wagner-Liest
Outstanding Vocal and Instrumental Novelties, including "Waltz, Op.39, No.15" for four hands by Brahms
Delightful Pieces for Junior Etude Readers, including "Dance of the Daffodils"
This 13" by 10 1/2" magazine is in good condition for age. It's 70 years old and fragile--printed on lightweight wartime paper, not like the sturdy glossy pages of today's magazines. The front cover is torn at the seam for about the bottom 5" but remains attached by 2 of 3 paper clips; it has little edgewear. The pages are firmly bound and intact without writing, highlighting, underlining, and other markings.
