THE ETUDE MUSIC MAGAZINE
JUNE 1939 VOLUME LVII, NO. 6
FEATURING "THE ART OF SINGING" BY KIRSTEN FLAGSTAD
PAGES 357 to 424
THEODORE PRESSER CO.
THE ETUDE MUSIC MAGAZINE described itself as "A monthly journal for the musician, the music student, and all music lovers." It was about music, musical performance, and the singers, players, and musicians who fill our lives with joy, sorrow, and entertainment. It was heavily oriented toward classical music and its study plus instruction in its performance and technique.
The magazines are very collectible. Some collect them for the cover art.
The magazine was published as THE ETUDE AND MUSICAL WORLD from 1896-1897, as THE ETUDE from 1897 to 1922, as THE ETUDE MUSIC MAGAZINE from 1922 to 1948, and as simply ETUDE from 1948 to 1957.
This June, 1939, issue has articles of interest on topics such as Mother Goose and Giuseppe Verdi and instructional topics such as modern vocal methods and wrist exercise for the violinist.
There are also musical pieces in the magazine:
Fascinating Pieces for the Musical Home, including "By the Sparkling Brook"
Master Works by Chopin
Outstanding Vocal and Instrumental Novelties, including "Courante" for violin and piano by Handel
Delightful Pieces for Junior Etude Readers, including "Two Little Blackbirds"
This 13" by 10 1/2" magazine is in very good condition for age. It's 70 years old and fragile--printed on lightweight wartime paper, not like the sturdy glossy pages of today's magazines. The cover is intact and firmly attached by all 3 staples. The pages are firmly bound. They have aged but are intact without writing, highlighting, underlining, and other markings.
Please see the photos. We do not use stock photos; the magazine you see is the magazine you get.
