Don't forget to check out the Vintage & Sale category in our store!

This sale is for an Ojibwa birch bark canoe gift basket.

It will come filled with Native American foods.

You will recieve:

1 lb. of our hand harvested Wild Rice packaged in a burlap pouch

1 - 8 oz. bottle of pure Minnesota Maple Syrup

1/2 pint of delicious Strawberry Jam

All will rest on aspen wood shavings sprinkled with fresh red pine cones set in a beautiful birch bark canoe basket.

This beautiful handmade canoe measures about 18" long, 5" wide and 4" deep.

It has a flat wood bottom. After the food is gone it makes the perfect centerpiece!

It is sewn with sinew and trimmed with fresh willow sticks.

This is a very sturdy canoe basket! It will last a lifetime.

Our wild rice is gathered the old way, in a canoe. This traditional Ojibwe gathering rite has been used by our ancestors for generations.

Please don't confuse this with paddy grown "wild rice". They look and taste completely different! The much darker (often black) paddy rice is machine planted and machine harvested, resulting in a bland tasting rice that may take up to 3 times longer to cook and yields a lot less per pound. Many rice paddys are sprayed with herbicides. Our hand harvested wild rice grows naturally on the lakes and river beds in Northern Minnesota on the Leech Lake Indian Reservation. This mouth watering nutty taste cannot be compared to the mass produced paddy rice.

The light color of wild rice indicates quality wild rice.

We do not mix our batches of wild rice!! All of the rice you recieve in your order will be from the same lake or river bed. Assuring your wild rice will cook evenly and have the same quality taste.

Our wild rice is wood parched. By using this method versus propane (which drys the rice) our wild rice is left more moist, resulting in a fluffier, more flavorful, faster cooking rice.

If stored in a dry place, wild rice will keep forever!

We will include  our favorite wild rice recipes.

If you choose this as a gift we will ship it to the address of your choice and include a hand written card with your message.

I have been harvesting wild rice seasonally for over 34 years. If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me.
