The2FunAdGuyz offer a new, high quality reproduction print of an early 1900s Bock Beer Brewery poster that will make an ideal wall hanging decor for a home bar, pub, tavern or restaurant. This collectible, Early American poster features the iconic, and naughty, Bock Beer Billy Goat leaned over a beer keg with a tap and the word “bock” on the barrel. He eyes a decidedly sexy Columbia, the allegorical female symbol frequently used in this era to symbolize America. Done for the George Winter Brewing Company, New York City, NY, this is an interesting pen and ink drawing. First, this is not your grandfather’s Columbia. She holds a frothy beer held high with one hand while the other hand affectionately rubs the ram’s neck. Then, there is the leg extended from her skirt. She seems ready to party hardy and is sure to be a conversation piece wherever this print hangs. At a time when beer had still not established itself as an “American” drink, this poster was one attempt to “Americanize” the drink. Columbia raises her glass and the goat leers. A shaft of botanicals is on the left side, perhaps adding to the theory that beer, because of its grain base and nutrients, was actually a food. The George Winter Brewery was located on 55th St., between 2nd & 3rd Avenues, in New York City. For centuries, drinkers associated Bock Beer with the Billy Goat. The association may be due to the German derivation of the word bock. Bock Beer originated in Einbeck, Germany. The beck evolved into bock. The German phrase “ein bock” means a goat. Thus, the naturally playful goat became the universal symbol for fun loving drinkers of bock beer. HOME DECOR IDEAS: Enhance the wall of any home bar, pub, restaurant, tavern, café, game room or any room needing a masculine tone with this amusing and playful poster. A classic example of late 1900's advertising art, this poster makes an excellent addition to a collection of black Americana, beer memorabilia or breweriana. Louis Kraemer, New York City produced the original stone lithograph from which this print originated. The artist is unknown. ![]() PAPER QUALITY: This new print is on a highest quality, acid-free, 100-pound glossy premium text paper that allows for maximum color brilliance and fidelity for older images.
