BEHIND THE MUSIC may be the one VH-1 show guaranteed to get people buzzing around the water cooler at work, but its little brother WHERE ARE THEY NOW? is a close second. Like the show, this compilation primarily features performers that some might consider one-hit wonders, with the bulk being drawn from a pool of artists whose heydays and images are inextricably linked to the '80s. British new wavers like the English Beat ("Save it For Later") and Bananarama ("Cruel Summer") are the driving force here, but there are also a smattering of American contemporaries, including the Cars ("Good Times Roll"), the Waitresses ("I Know What Boys Like") and the Hooters ("And We Danced"). Also getting the nod are groups from Wales (The Alarm), Scotland (Big Country) and Australia (The Divinyls). Balancing out the blandness of Mr. Mister's "Kyrie" and The Dream Academy's "Life in a Northern Town" are the Burundi-flavored rhythms of classics by Adam Ant ("Goody Two Shoes") and Bow Wow Wow ("I Want Candy").
