The2FunAdGuyz offer a new, high quality reproduction, print of an interesting 1918 World War I home front poster done for the American Library Association and the Library War Service. The American Library Association was a Home Front organization whose volunteers supported the American troops—both home and abroad. They were instrumental in the creation of Camp libraries at bases and in providing magazine and books to troops on the front line and serving elsewhere in the world. We have several posters featuring the World War I work of the American Library Association. Encouraging book donations for the camp libraries around the world was the goal of posters like this. What makes this poster unique is its use of photography—in fact a series of six photographs that make them very different from the usual home front posters. They capture the loneliness and starkness of the camps. Here is a list of the captions underneath the pictures. You should note that the text has slightly faded, but all captions are still legible. Top Left: “In bookcase boxes 100,000 books a month are sent overseas from 6 Dispatch Offices.” Top Center: “Books on photography are in great demand by official photographers. ALA Library Camp Travis, Texas.” Top Right: “One day’s delivery of magazines at the ALA Library Camp Center, Michigan.” Center Left: “The workroom in an ALA Camp Library where hundreds of books and magazines are unpacked daily.” Center Right: “Typical interior of the ALA Camp Libraries. Here the men learn why, where and how they are to fight.” Bottom: “The ALA Library reading porch, one of the coolest and most popular places at Camp Kearney, California.” The text at the bottom reads: “American Library Association. Library War Service.” ![]() PAPER QUALITY: This new print is on a highest quality, acid-free, 100-pound glossy premium text paper that allows for maximum color brilliance and fidelity for older images.
