This is a Gem Proof version of America's newest dollar coin, the Sacagawea, or "Golden Dollar." The coin has Deeply Mirrored fields and Heavily Frosted devices making it a very attractive Deep Cameo coin.
The obverse was designed by Glenna Goodacre and depicts Sacagawea portrayed in three-quarter profile. On her back, Sacagawea carries Jean Baptiste, her infant son. Six months pregnant when she joined the Lewis and Clark expedition, Sacagawea Gave birth to Jean Baptiste early in the journey.
The reverse was designed by Tom Rogers and depicts a soaring American Bald Eagle, our nation's symbol. It is Encircled by 17 stars - one for each state in the union at the time of the 1804 Lewis and Clark expedition.



Although containing no actual gold, the coin is a distinctive "Golden" color. The coin's physical makeup is a three-layer clad construction - a pure copper core sandwiched between and metallurgically bonded to outer layers of a manganese brass alloy. This alloy is a Golden-Colored material composed of 77% Copper, 12% Zinc, 7% Manganese and 4% Nickel.

This coin was taken out of a 2005 11 Coin Clad Proof Set and placed in an  2" by 2"  coin displayer with cotton gloves on. This coin has not been touch by any one hands.
