A reserve price is the minimum price the seller will accept. This price is hidden from bidders. To win, a bidder must have the highest bid and have met or exceeded the reserve price.
Early Antique Rocking Chair with High Comb Back and Cushion Seat
Antique rocker appears to be all original with the exception of the needlepoint seat cushion bottom attached to a wood piece. The widest point measures 20". Inside of the chair arms the front measures 17" and the back is 15". Floor to cushion height is 16". Top of comb to floor measures 41-1/2". Rocker length about 25-1/2". Chair seems to be sturdy but some of the delicate comb-back spindles should be re-glued. It appears the seat bottom must have had a different design to it, such as rush bottom or other that required nails which is evidenced by the holes left (now covered by the cushion piece). The cushion seat is not attached but could easily be held with a couple of nails or screws. It may have originally been what we were told was a "scoop bottom seat". We do not know if this is a Windsor chair or "Windsor inspired" - that's as close as we can research now to the specifics.
The finish shows no crazing or cracking. The center of the wood seat in the back is split but seems still stable, with or without the cushion piece. I would recommend some type of repair be done to be certain it stays stable. In the photos you will see some white areas; this appears to be old paint on the underside. There is no damage to the needlepoint and there is no apparent odor to the cushion. It has been in very dry storage for quite a while but this is a smoke free home. Note that the rocker itself, without the cushion and attached wood piece has an unusually light weight probably due to it's age. This also has what are called carpet cutter rockers.
