Daguerreotype Union Case with Rare Image of Chess Players

 

This 3 ¾ by 3 ¼ inch octagonal shaped union case was made by Littlefield, Parsons & Co.  It is black and has a raised relief image of an aristocratic man and woman playing chess on both sides .  All details, including the chess pieces on the board, are easily identified.  It is unsealed because a modern photograph was placed over the original one.  There is also a bit of staining around edges of the laid in maker’s label.  Please see photos.
