WINGS of TEXACO,VINTAGE Die Cast Airplane Coin Bank #2

1932 NORTHROP GAMMA, created for Frank Hawks, aviation Department for TEXACO, was delivered to TEXACO in December 1932. It was equiped with a Wright 14 cylinder engine of 785 horsepower. Its top speed was approximately 223 miles per hour with a range of 2.500 miles, allowing coast to coast non-stop flight capability. MIB.

This authentically 1:32 scaled replica has a beautiful detail with landing gear and propeller and will make a great gift for someone special.

My late hubby purchased the plane for me as a special gift to honor my dad, who was the grandson of an immigrate  from Germany. Please take a moment to read the story. I am now downsizing and would like for the plane to have a good home.

My dad was the son of a share cropper near Hillsboro TX and since he missed so much school he was not able to graduate until he has in his early 20's after working to pay for his schooling.  His dream was to go to Baylor University but like so many young people his dreams crumbled as the Great Depression became a reality. About 1929 or so he made his way to Port Arthur TX where the huge Texaco Refrinery was being built. My dad was about 5'11" without an extra ounce of weight but he was very strong.  In the very hot, humid weather the men had to wear hip boots and raincoats in the summer to keep the mosquitoes from biting them as they pushed wheelbarrels loaded with dirt up steep inclines to build the tank farms. After the refrinery was built he had to climb steep ladders to the top of each tank to read the gauges day after day.

I was born in 1934 and as a little girl we lived about 4 miles from the refrinery and I can remember the explosions and the fear of not knowing for hours if my dad was alive or dead - yes, he received injuries that affected him the rest of his life but he never gave gave up. We had a cow, chickens and a garden plus my mother made most of our clothes.  LIfe was not easy but good.   We made do or did without.

This country needs to show a deep appreciation for the men who gave so much of themselves doing back breaking work.
