Publisher's Note

The Modern Monologue in two volumes, one for men and one for women, is an exciting selection of speeches drawn from the landmark plays of the 20th century. The great playwrights of the British, American and European theatre-- and the plays most constantly performed on stage throughout the world--are represented in this unique collection.

Monologues of all types--both serious and comic, realistic and absurdist--provide a dynamic challenge for all actors: the student, the amateur and the professional.

A fuller appreciation of each speech is enhanced by the editors' introduction and commentaries that set the plays and individual speeches in their dramatic and performance contexts.

The Modern Monologue: Men contains 50 speeches from such plays as:

Old Times, Harold Pinter
Murder in the Cathedral, T.S. Eliot
Pygmalion, Bernard Shaw
The Tooth of Crime, Sam Shepard
Huis Clos, Jean-Paul Sartre

The Modern Monologue is an invaluable resource for acting classes, competitions, rehearsals and auditions.

A note to international bidders -
People have asked why my international shipping rates are so high. The reason is simple. I purchase my postage for eBay auctions online through PayPal. The U.S. post office does not offer the cheaper First-Class International shipping rate online. The least expensive international shipping rate USPS offers online is Priority Mail International. You are paying a bit more, but you are getting a better shipping service.

Do you need it there faster?
PayPal auction payments made through a credit card or from a PayPal account clear instantly. I can ship those items immediately. If you use PayPal to transfer money from a bank account, it will take longer. I cannot ship until your payment clears. That can be several days later (depending on your bank).

Express Mail shipping is sometimes available for an extra fee. Just ask me.
