Publisher's Note
A little girl's dream of glory, with enchanting full-color pictures If I were queen of the whole wide world, I'd have one hundred lollipops a day and never have to share. But sometimes I'd let my little brother have a lick or two". So begins a small girl's glorious fantasy of being queen of the world. She'd ride the scariest roller coaster at the fair one hundred times. But she'd get off once in a while to keep her little brother company on the flying elephants. Or, since she could fly just by spreading her arms, she'd sometimes take him on her back. She'd even let him sit near her and pretend to be a king. This charming, childlike text, illustrated with delightful humor by a well-loved artist, speaks directly to any young child with a sibling -- and to anyone who has dreams of glory!

Industry reviews
The narrator of this slight if genial debut children's book by Washington Post journalist and adult novelist Hiatt is an independent-minded girl whose wish list is, for the most part, quite tame. As queen of the world, she'd have her own desk and her own dog, stay up as late as she wanted and play beautiful music on the piano "even if I never practiced again." In a more fanciful vein, she aspires to consume 100 lollipops a day and fly through the air, surveying her fields and woods and castles. In each scenario, the would-be monarch is willing to share her royal privileges with her doting younger brother up to a point. The childlike sensibility of her concessions (the toddler receives but "a lick or two" of lollipop; he can occasionally pretend he's king, but "NEVER of the whole wide world") keeps the narrative from becoming too cloying. A soft focus and misty backgrounds give Graham's (Home by Five) oil paintings a fittingly dreamlike quality, and he adds a bit of oomph to the static story line by alternating domestic backdrops with glimpses of palace architecture. Yet the images of the siblings are curiously inconsistent; while some likenesses are clearly defined and readily convey personality, others are sketchy and remote. Ages 4-8. (Apr.)

PreS-Gr 1 The narrator, an appealing little redhead, imagines the wonderful things she would do if she were "Queen of the World." Each self-indulgent wish ("I'd have one hundred lollipops a day and never have to share") is paired with a more modest modification ("But sometimes I'd let my little brother have a lick or two"). Hiatt often hits on a real child's voice. For instance, the girl says she'd want to, "play hopscotch until my feet wore out, and it would always be my turn." And Graham's impressionistic oil paintings are, as usual, superb. Their rich colors, fanciful settings, and expressive characters are royally suited to this piece of regal whimsy. Preschoolers will take vicarious pleasure in the girl's wishes, and enjoy her affection for and power over her younger sibling. Lauralyn Persson, Wilmette Public Library, IL

About B-Logistics

B-Logistics began selling online in 2001 in partnership with several major public library systems that needed help managing large volumes of discarded materials. We chose the seller name Universal Athenaeum (depository of books and other materials for learning) to reflect that partnership, and we’re still proud to offer our services to hundreds of public, academic, school and special libraries all over the US and Canada (as well as a few publishers, retailers and wholesalers). By providing turnkey resale and recycling services of discarded books and media, we help libraries manage a difficult logistical challenge, generate positive PR, and earn funds for resources and programming.

Quality Standards

The books, CDs and DVDs we list for sale come from many sources, including public, academic and school libraries. We evaluate each item we list, and we strive to sell only items that are in GOOD or better condition, items that we would be happy to receive ourselves. You will notice in many cases that the library’s original ownership markings and other stamps, stickers and such are still in place. If you receive an item that is not in the stated condition, please notify us within 14 days of receiving the shipment so we can work out an acceptable resolution.

Great Service to Our Customers

We work hard to earn your confidence, and we want you to be 100% satisfied. When you order from B-Logistics, you’ll get your order fast. Most orders leave our warehouse the same day, and all orders leave our warehouse within two business days. Depending on the ship method you choose, you may have your order in hand the same week you ordered it. Although we’re a high-volume seller, we pride ourselves on offering top-notch service.

Great Service to Our Community

When you buy from B-Logistics, you make the world a better place! B-Logistics strives to be a good corporate citizen in everything we do, and your purchases support our good work. We provide turnkey service to our library and other liquidation partners so they have more time to provide much-needed resources to their patrons. We donate tens of thousands of books each year to non-profit literacy partners who bring books to needy recipients worldwide. In addition, we recycle hundreds of tons of unsalable books each year, providing an environmentally-friendly alternative to dumping books in landfills. Thank you for helping us do so much good with your purchase!
