Old Handmade New Bedford Whale Boat
Up for sale is a vintage piece of hand worked art under glass.
Model of a 1850-1870 whale boat.
Detail is incredible as the pictures will show.
Everything lovingly hand carved of wood and intact.
Only damage noted is to the tiller, very hard to tell but looks to have cracked and been reglued , possibly in the execution of this detailed project. sail is somewhat yellowed with age.
Base appears to be mahogany and is13 11/16 long and 6 1/8 wide.
Glass case appears to be soldered with lead but has a copper patina
12 1/4 long, 4 5/8 tall, 4 3/4 wide.
Boat is 10 inches long and about 2 1/2 wide and rests on two ornate brass pedestals.
So much detail you can almost smell the sea.
