If you are only doing the occasional very small concrete job, like installing fence post footings,you can probaby mix enough concrete by hand.However it is very much easier to use a concrete mixer and if you are doing anything other than the smallest of jobs it is a great asset which will give you good evenly mixed concrete in much less time.

You can build a simple small mixer which will give you 5 gallons of concrete at a time or a bigger model which will mix 15 gallons.We have two separate plans for these sizes.

The first plan produces concrete by the 5 gallon bucketful,using a 5 gallon paint drum as a container.It is a really simple machine to build and a used washing machine motor of 1/3 or 1/4 horse power drives it very well.This one will turn out enough concrete for the average job around the home and yard quite easily.

The second plan is for a larger mixer which uses a 15 gallon steel drum and will produce enough concrete to keep you busy when building a large project such as a garage floor or driveway.This one takes a bit more work to build but is still a simple project.
