The Sanskrit name for chess is CHATURANGA,which means the four divisions of an Indian Army chariots [represented by the rook/castle in the familiar chess set of today],cavalry{knight},elephants{bishop},and foot soldiers{pawns};added to these were a shah{king}.Afrasiab chessmen beautifully carved ivory chess pieces from the seventh to eighth centuries inspired Indian Artisan of modern times to produce an exclusive chess set which is of the highest quality and represents the quality carvings of the earlier century and represents the four divisions of Indian Army by birds and thus the formation of this class set on BIRDS THEME which has a 6" tall Peacock representing the King.
