This antique cobalt blue porcelain vase features a cameo keyhole view of a lakeside scene with a portrait of a nude lady bather having just emerged from her bath, to sun herself on the rock. The lady wears her blonde hair pulled up. Her only accessory is a wide bracelet made of gold. She covers herself with a white cloth. Wild flowers of pink, ivory and red dot the grassy field and the flower petals appear as white raised enameling. The pond is a wonderful shade of sapphire.
The portrait has a scalloped edge trimmed in heavy gold, with elaborate gold stenciled decoration. Gold stenciled floral images appear over the cobalt blue surface of the vase. The rim and base are trimmed in gold spray.
The ceramic vase has a unique shape, with narrow neck, and bulbous base.
We believe this vase to be from Germany, Austria or England, dating circa 1900. It measures 12" in height, and 6 1/4" in diameter. The base is marked in relief N S B. It has no chips and no repairs. Noted is age crazing on the lady portrait. The gold has faded, which is consistent with its age.
