This auction is for 1 new in bag, custom made by me, B-50 dacron 70AMO recurve bow string, ACTUAL LENGTH 66". COLORS -  O.D. GREEN  & LIGHT BROWN WITH MULTICOLOR CAMO SERVING, 16 strands for 55#-65# bows.

All my listings for recurve or longbow strings are listed in the title by AMO Bow Lengths

If your bow is not marked for length do the following to get the AMO bow length.

For a recurve lay it unstrung on top of a table with limb tips pointing upward. Measure beginning at string groove on one limb, down around limb curve to where it meets the table then straight across and around other limbs curve to its string groove. Round to nearest inch. This will be your bow's AMO bow length equivalent.

For a longbow, measure string groove to string groove following the front of the limbs and round to nearest inch. This will be your longbow AMO bow length equivalent.

The number of strands needed for your string can be determined as follows

8 Strands = 0 - 15 Pounds
10 Strands = 15 - 35 pounds
12 Strands = 35 - 45 pounds
14 Strands = 45 - 55 Pounds
16 Strands = 55 - 65 pounds
18 Strands = 65 - 80 pounds
& so on

As stated above my listings titles for recurve and longbow strings are in marked AMO bow lengths. The standard AMO string length for recurves and longbows is 4 inches shorter than marked bow length. It is not written in stone that a shooter must use that length but it is a good place to start. The basic wat to tune a recurve or longbow is by varying the string length by changing string length or by twisting the string. By not doing this you will not know how well your bow can really shoot.
Effects of variances in Recurve or longbow string lengths
A 4 inch shorter than marked bow length gives a good mid range brace height for the bow.
A 5 inch shorter than marked bow length gives a higher brace height and shoots a bit slower but with less arm slap from the string and usually a bit quiter. A 3 inch less than marked bow length gives a low brace height and more speed and arm slap and usually a bit more noise. The more speed in this set up is an effect of the string driving the arrow farther forward before releasing it and therefore transfers more stored energy to the arrow.
The shooter, by trying varying length strings and by twisting the string to fine tune between size lengths in strings can determine just what string length their bow shoots best with.
Finding this tuned string length is the most important thing a shooter can do to have their bow shooting with maximum effectiness. The arrow groups will tell it all when doing this type of tuning. Works well for me.
