We carry one of the largest selections of natural feathers in the U.S. of A.  Please read on for a little information about us.

 

 I raise show birds, most of which are heritage breed turkeys and rare breed chickens. I am also expanding into raising pheasants. All of our birds live outside where they are able to get lots of fresh air and sunshine. All of this makes for a happier and healthier bird.

 

Definitions of some poultry terms

 

Heritage breed-refers to turkeys only. These are color varations that have been obtained through breeding our native turkey. They are colors not seen very often since the mass breeding of turkeys for the table. All turkeys come from the native turkey, a beautiful "bronze" color, except the ocellated turkey. The ocellated turkey is a very rare bird which has absolutely gorgeous blue and comes from Belize, Honduras, Guatemala and S. Mexico.There are very few breeding pairs in the US and they are considered endangered. 

 

Rare breed  - usually refers to chickens. These are breeds that again are not seen since the commercialization of meat and egg birds. There are many beautiful colors of the simple chicken available. Many are in danger of being lost .

 

The feathers you are looking at have all been individually selected for quality. If a feather is not in A-1 condition I put it in the compost pile. They are also all treated by freezing below 0 for a minimum of 4 days. This kills any mites etc. that might have been present.
