THE PASSIONATE WITCH BY THORNE SMITH, HB, ENGLAND, 1942

For auction is this 2^ND edition of the 1942 ‘THE PASSIONATE WITCH’ by Thorne Smith and completed by Norman Matson, as Thorne Smith died before the book was finished. This was published by Methuen & Co. Ltd. London and is 248 pages.

The previous owner had written ‘Edinburgh 13-6-42 25/p’ on the FEP (front end paper) as the British way of writing the date, June 13, 1942.

On the next page the owner wrote his name, now in faint ink, as ‘BGE Philips, Penanporth 1942’ in the upper left corner.

Due to the age of the book there are age spots along the outside of the pages of the books and some of the pages do show brown marks of age. You can see by the photos, the front of the book and spine do have age wear. The corners are slightly turning inwards. You can see by the photos that there is no dust jacket for this book.

James Thorne Smith Jr. (March 27, 1892–June 21, 1934), was an American writer of humorous supernatural fantasy fiction.

Best known today for his creation of Topper, Smith's comic fantasy fiction (most of it involving sex, lots of drinking, and supernatural transformations, and aided by racy illustrations) sold millions of copies in the early 1930s. Smith drank as steadily as his characters; his appearance in James Thurber's The Years With Ross involves an unexplained week-long disappearance. Smith was born in Annapolis, Maryland the son of a Navy commodore, attended Dartmouth College, and after hungry years in Greenwich Village working part-time as an advertising agent, Smith achieved meteoric success with the publication of “Topper” in 1926. He died of a heart attack while vacationing in Florida.

The shipping cost is given by the post office.

We don't charge extra for shipping and handling. 

We try and ship all auction wins within 48 hours of purchase although our tiny post office is closed on weekends.

If payment is received late on Thursday or early on Friday, we'll send out on Monday.

Once we return from the post office, we’ll email you a shipping confirmation to confirm your item has been shipped.  

If shipping comes to less than what has been charged, we will always reimburse the excess shipping cost if over $1.

INSURANCE:

Insurance is up to the buyer.  If you require insurance, please add insurance when you purchase through PayPal, otherwise loss or damage won't be reimbursable as all items are in the described condition when they leave our home.

COMBINED SHIPPING:

We will combine shipping when possible on multiple auction wins.
