7 Vintage Bow & Crossbow Building Project Plans CD THIS AUCTION IS FOR 7 VINTAGE Bow and Crossbow build PLANS. 1. Flight Bow Plans: The flight bow is the ultimate in the bowyer's field. Many flight bows are made, shot once and then discarded. Or, they shatter during a single test use and are now longer used after study. 2. Repeating Crossbow Plans: This repeating crossbow has all the handling characteristics of a fine slide-action repeating rifle. In the hands of an experienced crossbowman it can deliver 5 shots in 5 seconds with extreme accuracy over ranges of up to or more than 40 yards. The steel-pointed arrows, or quarrels, as they are correctly called, are loaded from the top into a magazine just as are the cartridges in a bolt-action rifle. After loading, the bow is cocked by a slide, and the quarrel is fired by pressing a trigger which releases the bowstring. 3. Long Bow Plans: The long bow has a deep or "stacked" body, which is generally recognized as the best type of bow shape. 4. Flat Bow Plans: The dimensions given are for a bow 5 ft. 8 in. long with a draw weight of from 45 to 50 lb. at a draw of from 27 to 28 in. This combination is suitable for the average man. When new the bow will draw 5 lb. or more above these figures. 5. Recurve Bow Plans: A recurve bow is a bow that, in comparison to the simple longbow, has tips that curve away from the archer when the bow is held in shooting position. The technical difference between a recurve and other bows is that when strung, the string touches the limbs of a recurve bow, where as it only touches the tips of other types. The recurve bow's bent limbs allow for: A lower Bracing Height with the same limb length, More spring force over the first few inches of draw, and A smoother draw. It is the only form of bow permitted in the Olympics (though the Compound bow is permitted in some categories at the Paralympic Games) and is the most widely used by European and Asian sporting archers. The recurved shape of the limbs causes a fairly linear increase in force as the string is drawn back. A recurve bow releases its energy more efficiently than a longbow, giving a greater amount of cast for a given draw weight than a longbow. 6. Hunting Bow Plans: So many sportsmen have adopted Bow Hunting, that some states have exclusive bow-and-arrow hunting reserves where firearms are prohibited. A bow for hunting should be as short as practical, ranging in length from 4 ft. 8 in. to 5 ft. 6 in. It should be a plain bow, able to stand a lot of use. The demountable type of semiflat bow described here is popular because of ease of transportation, and the knockdown handle in no way affects smooth, fast shooting. If this is your first bow, by all means make it of lemonwood, as this compact and nearly grainless wood permits mechanical shaping without any regard to grain structure. 7. Survival Bow An excellent bow for wilderness survival that can be made quickly for emergency use! 8. Archery Handbook (Bonus)! BONUS PLAN READER INCLUDED!
