This auction is for a Hull Little Red Riding Hood Wall Hanging Planter. This is a rare and very difficult piece to find.
The colors are clear and the red is bright. The gold detailing is in excellent condition as well. There is a little faded area of the red where the bonnet meets the forehead and can be seen in the picture. There are no cracks or crazing - but there is a glazed over flaw on the side which occured during the manufacturing process. There are the usual glaze pops that are common on old pieces. The inside of the planter has a little discoloration on the bottom. The decal is in good condition. Des. Pat. No 135889 is clearly visible on the back.
I consider this piece to be in EXCELLENT condition. This is a very rare find and a great opportunity to own a piece of this highly collectible design.
All antique ceramic items will have some flaws especially glaze skips or glazed over imperfections. There was little or no quality control years ago. Anything attributable to the manufacturing process is not considered damage. This piece is at least 50 years old. As one antique dealer says - if you want perfect, buy new - even then it might not be perfect.
Little Red Riding Hood pottery was created by Hull in 1943 with the initial cookie jar designed by Louise Bauer. The design became so popular that Hull could not meet the high demand so the company contracted with Regal China Company to make the line. Most Little Red Riding Hood pieces were produced and decorated by Regal China with production between 1943 - 1957. Most are marked "Des. Pat. No 135889" on the bottom This Item is circa 1943 - 1957. It was bought at an estate sale that included many rare Hull Pottery Little Red Riding Hood.
I have provided pictures of this piece from all angles. The piece is sold "as is". Because of the great delicacy of this item and the danger of possible careless repacking of this lovely piece, I will not accept a return or offer a refund unless this item is grossly misrepresented.
