Neal McCoy, a gregarious East Texan, has been performing for over a decade. The long-haired, part-Irish/part-Filipino singer has finally found his breakthrough with the release of NO DOUBT ABOUT IT. The title track rocketed him to the top of the charts, showing what a simple unabashed love song can do for a career. His second hit, "Wink" ("...all she's gotta do is give me that wink..."), also zoomed to the top of the charts, showing what a simple unabashed lust song can do for a career. "The City Put The Country Back In Me" kept Neal at #1, showing what an unabashed country song can do for a career. Hits aside, this album includes a glut of top-notch country fare. There are melodic ballads about love and heartbreak ("Heaven," with its Sting-goes-country instrumentation, the Sam Cooke-sounding "I Apologize," the pop-styled "Something Moving In Me"), skillet-hot rockers ("Mudslide"), and hand-clapping country-blues about simplifying life ("Small Up And Simple Down," in which he advises to "sell the poodle, get a blue-tick hound"). The songs on NO DOUBT ABOUT IT reveal an artist who utilizes his wealth of influences, from the soul of traditional country and rhythm 'n blues, to the style and bravado of show tunes.
